The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this." [Isaiah 9:6-7]
"The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up" [John 2:17; Psalm 69:9]
Young men, do you have zeal for the Lord? Does the Lord consume your every thought, your every word, your every action?
The dictionary definition for zeal is: fervor for a person, cause, or object; eager desire or endeavor; enthusiastic diligence; ardor.
How does zeal for the Lord manifest itself in your lives? Zeal for the Lord makes you to have a passion for the Lord. This can be in prayer. The most zealous person can spend his life at the mercy of Jesus Christ and he is no less zealous than the man that is on the mission field fighting for the Kingdom of God. This can be in writing, reading, sharing the gospel, etc. Zeal for the Lord can be manifested in almost every area of life.
You must be zealous. Zealousness begins because you love the Lord so much that is consumes you. Do you give more thought to the concerns of this world than to the Lord? Do you study the Scriptures to know God or do you study your novels?
Young men, be zealous for the Lord. Examine your own heart. Hath the Zeal of the Lord eaten you up? If we had one hundred young men that were truly zealous for the Lord, we would change the world. Be a zealous man. Be a fire brand in the hand of your Lord setting fire to the hearts of men. Soli Deo Gloria.

Proverbs
Young men, this past week I spent some time in Boston, MA at a conference. As I listened t0 the many lectures I was greatly convicted and encouraged.
While I was there a man pointed out that the book of Proverbs in the Bible was written for young men. So, I would like you all to study the book of Proverbs for the following reason:
"The Proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation the words of the wise, and their dark sayings." (Proverbs 1:1-4)
The book of Proverbs will teach you wisdom. You should know it and study it as you should know and study all of the Scriptures. Study the Scriptures by getting down on your knees and taking out Matthew Henry's Commentaries and pray over every verse. Give your life in the service of God. You should know the Word of God backwards and forwards. We speak so highly of the Puritans because of their knowledge of the Word of God. Become a Puritan. Those people that know the word of God and live by it will change a culture for the Kingdom of God. "Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee." (Psalm 119:11) Soli Deo Gloria.

To The Young Men of Our Culture
Young Men, you are the next generation. A lot is on your shoulders. Are you going to let it fall off your back to the next generation or will you rise up?
Today’s world is a sorry place. People have left off serving the one true God and then they want to know why we are where we are. Today finds many of us young men sitting on the couch playing a computer game, watching TV, or having a relationship with a young lady (that you don’t intend to marry). You might even be surfing the Internet. You are doing all this while the world is falling apart and you with it. Let me ask you; which one of you when seeing a burning house would not run into it to save the people inside? I say to you; you are in a burning world. Are you going to run into it to save the people inside? When you seek your own pleasure and your own desires, you are tuning out the world around you that is crying out for a Savior. Will you lay aside your life to take the gospel to the world, yea will you lay aside your life to show the world the Savior they really need. Life is not about you. Life is about God and what He wants of you. You must die to yourself and live for God. Take up your cross and follow after Christ.
You are virtually dying. You may walk out your front door today and never return. You may get in an accident and never be able to talk again or walk again or you could live a long life to the glory of God, but you are going to end up dying some day. Let me ask you, who are you serving? Most of us young men serve the person we look at in the mirror each day. Are you that important? Life is so short; think of all the people in this world that don’t have food or clothing or shelter. Do you matter that much?
In the Holy Word of God, we are told to redeem the time for the days are evil. What does this mean? There are 300 million people in the United States alone. There are over 6 billion people in the entire world and the large majority of those people are on the broad road that leadeth to destruction. We have a duty to go to those people and tell them the truth about Christ.
I call you young men to rise up. Read the Bible and put on the whole armor of God. To you who is sitting on the couch asking your mom or your dad, “where are the people that will stand up for righteousness sake;” I say to you, thou art the man!!! If you are saying where are the people that will follow after God; “What is that to thee; you follow me."”
Will you sacrifice all for the cause of Christ? Will you take up your cross and follow after Christ? Are you going to continue worshiping you or are you going to worship God? Are you willing to do as Moses did, “He chose rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasure of sin for a season.” I say to you; sin is sweet and full of pleasure but only for a short time. You will experience great joy when you sin, but what is your reward? You will experience great tribulation on this earth if you choose to follow Christ, but you are laying up for yourself treasures in Heaven.
I will ask you one last question. If you died today or even the next second or if you didn't wake up tomorrow on this earth, where would you wake up, were will you go when you die? Heaven or Hell? Can you say, "It is no longer I that live but Christ that liveth in me?”
I charge you young men to consider these things before it is too late. I charge you to repent of your sins and seek after our risen Lord. Soli Deo Gloria.

Words of Encouragement From the Scriptures In These Dark Days
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary and they shall walk and not faint."[Isaiah 40:31]
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."[Isaiah 41:10]
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."[Philippians 4:9]
"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust...He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler...A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee...For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Call the Sabbath a Delight
"If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor findings thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it." [Isaiah 58:13-14]
The above verse from the book of Isaiah is speaking to us about the Sabbath day. On the seventh day of the world the Lord God Almighty hallowed the Sabbath day as told us in the fourth commandment. In other words, the Lord made the Sabbath holy and in the above verse we are told how to observe the Sabbath in an holy manner.
The Lord has put it into my heart to try to persuade those who do not believe the observance of the Sabbath is for today. So, I will seek to do this to the best of my ability to the glory of God.
As I mentioned before, the Lord rested the seventh day from all of His labors. We are told this in the fourth commandment in Exodus chapter 20. The fourth commandment is not the first time we are introduced to the keeping of the Sabbath day. Notice, the fourth commandment does not start with "Thou shalt" or "Thou shalt not." No, it says "Remember," because we have already been shown the Sabbath day in Genesis after the sixth day of creation. "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."(Genesis 2:2-3)
So, in the fourth commandment we are given a command from God to keep the Sabbath holy and the verse from Isaiah shows us how to do this.
Question: That is all good and fine, but the fourth commandment was not reiterated in the New Testament and all of the other commandments were. Why then do we have to keep it?
Answer: First, the first table of the law is not reiterated in the New Testament. You may say, "But the Lord tells us to love the Lord with all of our heart, with all of our soul, with all mind and with all of our strength. This is the first table of the law." That is true. That is the first table of the Law, but the reason why you say that is because you are told that in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Second, Walter Chantry, said in his book, Call the Sabbath a Delight, "If anyone says that the New Testament does not teach the fourth commandment, perhaps he should read the Gospels before he pretends to speak for the whole Testament." In other words, the Lord speaks of the fourth commandment all over the New Testament and He was not just speaking to the Jews. No, He was speaking to us as well. If we believed Christ was only speaking to the Jews, then the only part of the Bible that really matters is the death of Christ.
Question: When the Lord spoke of the Fourth Commandment in the New Testament, wasn't He referring to the Seventh day? Furthermore, didn't the Lord fulfill the law when he died?
Answer: Yes, Christ was referring to to the Seventh day, but it is obvious that the day changed after Christ's death. First, Christ rose again from the dead on the First day of the week (Sunday). So, every time we come together on Sunday for church we should remember that the Lord rose from the dead on the First day of the week. Second, after Christ had risen up into Heaven, the disciples met for Pentecost on the First day of the week. Also, when the young man fell out of the window while Paul was preaching, this was on the first day of the week. Furthermore, in the book of Revelation chapter 1 verse 10 it says, "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day..." Never in the Old Testament was the Seventh day referred to as the "Lord's day." No, the only day we refer to as the Lord's day is the First day of the week or Sunday. This is because Christ rose on the first day of the week. Also, the Lord did indeed fulfill the law when he died, but if you read Hebrews ten, it is clear that He fulfilled the Sacrificial laws and the Ceremonial laws but did not fulfill the ten commandments.
Lastly, in Hebrews four, the Bible speaks of a rest for the children of God. It seems that the rest the writer is speaking of is that Sabbath rest we will enjoy in Heaven for all eternity. The reason I have come to this conclusion because the writer says in verse 4, "For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all His works." It then proceeds to speak of a rest yet to come. This to me and to other Bible scholars including Calvin is speaking of the rest we will enjoy in Heaven.
You see, we as Christians must have some sort of rest so that we may completely concentrate on the Lord. This is why we were given the the Sabbath day by God. The Rocky Mountain Times some time in the 19th century said that, our nation was in the state that it was because of the failure to observe the Christian Sabbath. Voltaire said, "If you want to destroy the Christian religion, you must first destroy the Christian Sunday." Having the rest needed to completely focus on God without other distractions gives us a strength to proceed with the week to follow. Completely focusing on God is what we will enjoy in Heaven. Our Sabbath is a small picture of what we will enjoy in Heaven for all eternity.
I ask you, if you are not willing to sanctify one day to the Lord, will you be able to sanctify eternity to the Lord? What I mean is this, if you are not willing to spend one day a week focusing on God completely for the entire day, will you be willing to spend eternity focusing on God completely or will you want to play baseball or ultimate.
Keeping the Sabbath day reflects a love for the Lord, unless you are keeping it just because you were told to. It is a matter of the heart. "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." I beg you to reconsider your belief concerning the Lord's day. I beg you to pray to God that he would open your eyes. I beg you to study the Scriptures. Soli Deo Gloria.
One last thought, the verse I started this post with talks about delighting ourselves in the Lord. The Bible says in the Psalms, "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." Delight yourself in the Lord and keep His holy day, dear brethren in Christ.

Taking Every Thought Captive To The Obedience of Christ
“Bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” is a vital aspect of a Christian’s life. Our mind must be obedient to God.
The taking of every thought captive means to keep your mind on things above, to watch over your heart with all diligence, and to take down the strongholds of evil thoughts.
Christians must keep their mind on things above. Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally brethren whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise think on these things.” Psalm 1 says, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” The Christian is to train himself to fill his thoughts with the things of God. The Christian ought to lay up the word of God in his heart that he might not sin. “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”[Psalm 119:9]
The Christian should also watch over his heart with diligence. Matthew 15:19 says, “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts…” If a Christian is thinking evil thoughts willingly, then his heart is not right with God. A Christian must pray to the Lord that He would allow for the sword, which watches the way of the tree of life, to watch the way of his heart. Evil thoughts will come, but he must take them down with the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. He must lay hold on eternal life. To be a proven warrior ready for the battle, his heart and mind must be tuned against the Devil, his flesh, and the world.
Finally, wicked thoughts are strongholds that must be brought down. When the Christian thinks evil thoughts, he must immediately go to Scripture. If he sees wickedness he ought to remind himself that he is to set no worthless thing before his eyes.[Psalm 101:3] So, every thought that the Christian thinks ought to be taken and bound with the cords of Scripture and prayer.
The Christian must pray for the Lord’s strength to accomplish the task of “taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” and he must have faith that the Lord will give him the strength required.
