The Countless Millions Going the Way of Hell

"Burns became almost overwhelmed with the thought of those in foreign countries who were perishing without the good news of Christ. He often felt the burden of their cries of help as if they were calling to him. He was in Glasgow one day and his mother walked straight up to him but he remained oblivious. When he did finally see her, she said it was as if he had come from a great dream. When he spoke she says it was with deep emotion: "O mother! I did not see you: for when walking along Argyle street just now, I was so overcome with the sight of the countless crowds of immortal beings eagerly hasting hither and thither, but all posting onwards towards the eternal world, that I could bear it no longer, and turned in here to seek relief in quiet thought."

Each man, woman, and child is heading straight for eternal life. Eternal life is everyone's destiny. It does not matter how many places you have been, how many cars you own, how much you love this world. Nothing will go with you, no earthly possession, no business venture, no time to redeem. When you enter into the abyss of eternity, the only thing that will go with you is your immortal soul.

What you do with your life matters. Where do you lay up your treasures? For those that want to see great things, go take a look at Rome, Greece, Carthage, Egypt. These were once empires but are no more than rubble. They exist as a reminder of what earthly treasures afford. For those that are bold in heart, go fight great battles, climb high mountains, become a combat elite. The death toll of Mount Everest stands as a warning to you. For those that love adventure, run across the Sahara, hunt alligators in the Everglades, go hunting for lions in Africa, or swim with stingrays. What will this gain you? What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his own soul? Throughout all these things, there runs a vein. Something that has lasted since the beginning. There is an eternity for us all. Now, I ask you. What are you doing with your life? Eternity is a reality. Will you build for yourself a palace on this earth?

I opened this post with a quote from the book titled, God's Polished Arrow. This book concerns the great missionary, William C. Burns. It was said of Burns by his brother that he spent his life at the mercy seat of Jesus Christ. This is how we must live. The Lord said of Caleb in Numbers chapter 14, "But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully." Lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven. George Whitfield purposed to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and trust the Lord with the rest of His life. Do you live this way? Is your affection for God so great that you can say, "I have counted my life lost for Christ's sake?"

Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?  2For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66:1-2]

3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?  4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.a  5He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. [Psalm 24:3-5]

Do you take time to pour time into others? God has given you talents. God has given you a great gift. "To whom much is given, much is required." Do you have a heart for the lost? God does not care how many countries you have seen, how much money you make, how many friend you have. God cares whether or not you have obeyed His Word. God wants to know whether or not He will receive His talents back with usury when He returns. The life you live is not yours. It belongs to God. You are merely a steward. Have you been a profitable servant? When God asks for His talents, will you have to say, "I saw Rome, I swam with dolphins, I killed a wildebeest"? Or will you say, "Countless millions did not know you; however, as your ambassador, I went to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. I have taken captivity captive, I have bound up the broken hearted, I have proclaimed liberty to the captives. I have been faithful in these little things." "Those that are faithful in little will also be made faithful in much."

Let me tell you something. While you live life to the extreme, reality is that all over the World more and more people are entering eternity without God. While you live your adventure, men, woman, and children, are becoming monsters in hell. I challenge each of you to go to the mall next time black Friday comes around and sit in the food court and watch. There are so many people trying to amount earthly possessions for themselves that will soon fall away. Listen to their noise. You are listening to a small fraction of the millions upon millions of people running headlong into the bottomless pit. Now, are you going to go put your light under a bushel and climb Mount Everest or on a candle stick that it may give light unto all those that are in the house? Are you willing to spend life, "living life," when the rest of the world is dying? What else needs to be said? We are too concerned with what we want, need, and set our mind upon. Are you satisfied in Christ or do you always want more? The souls of the people of this world are crying out for a Savior, a Savior that can only be found in Jesus Christ. Now, who will count the cost and answer the call as the Lord's ambassador?

A Poem by Robert Murray McCheyne

She has chosen the world,
And its paltry crowd:
She has chosen the world,
And an endless shroud!
She has chosen the world,
With its misnamed pleasures;
She has Chosen the world
Before heaven's own treasures.

She hath launched her boat
On life's giddy sea,
And her all is afloat
For eternity.
But Bethlehem's star
Is not in her view;
And her aim is far
From the harbour true.

When the storm descends
From an angry sky,
Ah! where from the winds
Shall the vessel fly?
When stars are concealed,
And rudder gone,
And heaven is sealed
To the wandering one.

The Whirlpool opes
For the gallant prize;
And, with all her hopes,
To the deep she hies!
But who may tell
Of the place of woe,
Where the wicked dwell,
Where the worldlings go!

For the human heart
Can ne'er conceive
What joys are the part
Of them who believe
Nor can justly think
Of the cup of death
Which all must drink
Who despise the faith.

Away, then-oh, fly
From the joys of earth!
Her smile is a lie-
There's a sting in her mirth.
Come, leave the dreams
Of this transient night,
And bask in the beams
Of an endless light.

This poem was written by Robert Murray McCheyne after hearing that a friend of the family had said, "That she was determined to keep by the world." I hope you take heed to its truths as it pleads with you to walk not the way of the ungodly.

Good Intentions by St. Clair Adams

Good Intentions

The road to hell, they assure me,
With good intentions is paved;
And I know my desires are noble,
But my deeds might brand me depraved.

It's the warped grain in our nature,
And St. Paul has written it true:
"The good that I would I do not;
But the evil I would not I do."

I've met few men who are monsters
When I came to know them inside;
Yet their bearing and dealings external
Are crusted with cruelty, pride,

Scorn, selfishness, envy, indifference,
Greed - why the long list pursue?
The good that they would they do not;
But the evil they would not they do.

Intentions may still leave us beast-like;
With unchangeable purpose we're men.
We must drive the nail home - and then clinch it
Or storms shake it loose again.

In things of great import, in trifles,
We our recreant souls must subdue
Till the evil we would not we do not
And the good that we would we do.

Can't by Edgar A. Guest

Can't

Can't is the worst word that's written or spoken;
Doing more harm here than slander and lies;
On it is many a strong spirit broken,
And with it many a good purpose dies.
It springs from the lips of the thoughtless each morning
And robs us of courage we need through the day:
It rings in our ears like a timely-sent warning
And laughs when we falter and fall by the way.

Can't is the father of feeble endeavor,
The parent of terror and half-hearted work;
It weakens the efforts of artisans clever,
And makes of the toiler an indolent shirk.
It poisons the soul of the man with a vision,
It stifles in infancy many a plan;
It greets honest toiling with open derision
And mocks at the hopes and the dreams of a man.

Can't is a word none should speak without blushing;
To utter it should be a symbol of shame;
Ambition and courage it daily is crushing;
It blights a man's purpose and shortens his aim.
Despise it with all of your hatred of error;
Refuse it the lodgment it seeks in your brain;
Arm against it as a creature of terror,
And all that you dream of you some day shall gain.

Can't is the word that is foe to ambition,
An enemy ambushed to shatter your will;
Its prey is forever the man with a mission
And bows but to courage and patience and skill.
Hate it, with hatred that's deep and undying,
For once it is welcomed 'twill break any man;
Whatever the goal you are seeking, keep trying
And answer this demon by saying: "I can."

I found this poem to be very inspiring. I hope you do as well. Can't ought never to be spoken by any of us except in very few instances. Such as in the case of Peter, "We cannot but speak the things that we have seen and heard." If we are unable to to do something for religious reasons, than our response should be one of resolve. "I will not."

Proverbs 21:22-23

A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof. Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

Isaiah 35

Isaiah 35

1The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.  2It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God.

 3 ¶ Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.  4Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.  5Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.  6Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.  7And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.  8And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.  9No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:  10And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

(Praise the Lord all ye his people. Praise ye the Lord)

The Mighty Man

Proverbs 16:32

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

The Word of God defines for us what a man of God is. Too often we are blinded by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life, the world's trinity. Too often we are dreamers of every wicked thing. Too often, we walk in the way of the world.

The Scriptures says, "It is better to meet a bear robbed of her whelps than to meet a foolish man in his folly," yet we continually go the way of foolishness and seek after the things of this world. We seek after earthly pleasures that will soon fall away.

I will make this brief, but I want you to pay attention to the verse above. I want you to take heed. We must rule our hearts or spirits with utmost care. Out of our hearts proceed every evil thing [Mark 7:21]. We must watch over our hearts with all diligence [Proverbs 4: 23].

Lately, I have been listening to sermons by a man named Paul Washer. God has greatly gifted him in the ministry. You can find his sermons on Sermon Audio. In his sermons, he makes the point that some of the people listening to him will someday be monsters in hell. This is very sobering. I would pray that this would not be the case with this blog. I would urge you to read my last post on the supremacy of God, if you doubt your salvation. You can find that post here. You cannot pray a prayer to ask God into your heart. You cannot look at your life and say, "I am a pretty good person." Just because you have a ministry or a blog that mentions godly things or you talk a lot about the gospel does not mean you are saved. In fact, just because you know you are a sinner in need of a savior does not mean you are a Christian. If you asked the devil if he were a sinner, he would admit to it.

In order for you to be a Christian, you must be bought of God by Christ. You must be purged by the crimson flood. No amount of works, no amount of love, no amount of prayers, would earn your right to go to Heaven. In fact, if you lived the most upright life, went to church, prayed often, you would still be worthy of Hell forever. However, God deserves no less even if your end is to spend eternity in Hell. Only the blood of Jesus Christ can save you.

I want you to understand that if you believe you can go to Heaven by your merits, you are terribly mistaken. The only way to God is through Jesus Christ [John 14:6]. I ask you now to repent of your sins with sincerity, to forsake your sins, and to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ that He is adequate for you and just to forgive you your sins. You can then rest on the promise of God that he will forgive you. "Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near: let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." [Isaiah 6:7]

"Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith..."[Hebrews 12:2a]

May the Lord grant you strength.
