The House of The Lord

"Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel. And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God: But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight. Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever."[1 Chronicles 22: 6-10]

Wow!!! This is an incredible charge that king David is giving to his son Solomon. I would like to particularly focus on verse ten: "He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever." Not only does this tell of the coming of our Lord, but it also could be used as an admonition to us. Listen to what it says: "He shall build an house for my name." The Lord is speaking of the temple that would be built in Jerusalem for Him. However, I would like to take it further by saying that we are all temples of the Holy Ghost. So we too must build the temple of the Lord. We must take wisdom, "For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold," [Proverbs 3:14] and furnish the temple that we build the Lord with it. We must also take the fruits of the Spirit for, "the house that is to be builded for the Lord must be exceeding magnificent."[1 Chronicles 22:5b] We must also put on the whole armour of God so as to protect the temple of God against the devises of Satan.

Also listen to how it says, "and he shall be my son, and I will be his father." We are all heirs or adopted sons of the Lord, but let me take it a little deeper. We are all adopted sons because of the Lord that came to "establish his kingdom over Israel for ever." This is what I believe the text is speaking of.

Throughout the entire Old Testament we are told of the coming of the Lord. ("And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself." (Luke 24:27)) The text from Chronicles reinstates the promise God made to David concerning the establishment of his kingdom. This text also reinstates indirectly the promises made to Abraham that, "All the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him." [Genesis 18:18b] You see the Lord is extremely faithful to his promises. He continually reinstates and reaffirms His promises.

I hope you are encouraged to study the Scriptures. You cannot believe what I am telling you just because I said it. You must study this for yourself. Make it your own. The Lord be with you. Sola Deo Gloria.
