The Law of God

"For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments." Ezra 7:10

Matthew Henry says of Ezra, "He sought the law of the Lord, that is , he made it His business to enquire into it, searched the scripture, and sought the knowledge of God, of His mind, and will, in the scriptures, which is to be found there, but not without seeking."

"He sought the law of the Lord" - "But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night."[Psalm 1:2] "Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart."[Psalm 119:2] The Greek word for seek is "darash," which means diligently to seek after, to inquire, to make inquisition. Ezra inquired after the Law of God. He diligently sought after it. "With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments."[Psalm 119:10]

"He made conscience of doing according to it(the law); he set it before him as his rule, formed his sentiments and temper be it, and managed himself in his whole conversation according to it." - Matthew Henry

He followed completely after it. Ezra was consumed with the Lord and his law. Everything he did was dictated by it and subdued under it. Ezra delighted himself in the Law of the Lord.

"This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the Lord his God upon him." God blessed Ezra because he loved the Lord his God and served Him fully.

As you have seen in the example of Ezra, so do ye. "The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul."[Psalm 19:7] "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ Jesus."[Galations 3:24] "But we know that the law is good if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for the sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine." Everyone at the last day will be judged by the Law as Nineva was judged and destroyed for witchcraft. Will you be crushed under the law or will you be forgiven by the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? We have all broken the law of God. We have all fallen short. We have all denied the Law of God in our actions, in our words, and in our deeds day by day. How long, O man, will you deny the Lord's Law? Take heed to the Law of the Lord. Take heed lest you be deceived by the deceitfulness of sin. Soli Deo Gloria.
